Looking back over the last two months, 2012 seems to be the year of stepping out, with many of the youth moving out of their comfort zones and trusting God to use them for ventures both great and small for His kingdom’s sake. What visions and dreams has God placed in your heart to fulfil? Share them with the youth leaders and let’s believe God to open those doors. Thank God for the stories of God’s goodness to come!!!

Ok, so some of us find it hard to know what to say, how to listen to God and sometimes prayer just feels boring!!!

So Why Pray? – Well, why talk to your closest friends? It’s just the same with God. Prayer is the way to connect with God in a deeper way. Basic Prayer involves 3 stages- Talking to God, listening to Him and obeying what He says. When we pray this is what will happen, we will – know and love God more, love other people more, release blessings on our lives and see real answers for the things we pray for!

There are many examples in the Bible of the results of prayer: Daniel, Esther, Paul and many more.
Evelyn’s proof that God is answering our prayer today:

Evelyn – For a long time after graduating from university I was unsure about my career path. I prayed with my cell and God told me to train in Counselling. So, I did Level 1 of the IBIOL Biblical Counselling course at KT. At the beginning of this year I was looking for entry counselling courses to do so I could start the main qualifying course for Counsellors in September, unfortunately all the entry courses had started.

I considered doing a fast track course; however one of them was extremely expensive and was only at weekends which meant I would miss cell meetings and Church, other courses I looked at where either too expensive or meant I could not continue with the counselling course at KT.

Again I prayed myself and with my cell and God answered my prayer! I found a course on Monday evenings willing to allow me to enrol after the starting date. I have started the KT level 2 Counselling course and I have an interview for a training school starting in April. God truly answers responds to prayer with favour and love.

There is no hard and fast set formula on how to pray.

Here are some practical points that may help:

1: Schedule a time - Treat those set apart times as a precious appointment with the King Jesus.
2: Make A List - about anything; your relationship with God, family, friends, cell, work, education, money, social issues, healing etc. Pray for different topics each day and record the results.
3: Pray Always - in tongues, out loud or quietly or just setting your mind on Him.
4: Language - use everyday language. Speak to God as you would speak to your best friend.
5:Be Creative - Why not try writing God a poem, a song or sending God a text, email or BB message and save it on your phone!
6: Forgive Others - Jesus reminds us that forgiving others is important as we desire to draw near to God.
7 And Remember.. God is the most LOVING person you will ever meet, so approach him as his child, accepted and dearly loved by God through Christ.

Breaking out into the city through the Power of Gathering!

I thank God for the thousands of people from KT that meet each week in cells, congregations and churches across this great city of London! Yet the apostolic vision of the house is calling us to greater and bolder breakthrough gatherings.

The vision to hold increasing numbers of cell celebrations in different parts of London building towards larger citywide gatherings and conferences.

These celebrations are totally different to our Sunday services or individual cell meetings. In order to defeat the demonic strongholds of London and reach our city for Christ we must break out into the power of these new strategic gatherings.

Our cell celebrations are one of the most important facets of my vision for the future.

Join me and play your part in fulfilling the destiny of Kensington Temple London City Church.

Lady Gaga hit 20million followers on Twitter on Monday (5-3-12). She is the first to have done this – with Justin Justin Bieber following at 18million. Her words through twitter, Facebook and most influentially through her music and videos are having a great impact on this generation. As Oprah Winfrey states of Gaga “she is one of the most influential forces of our time”.

I was thinking about her song ‘Born this Way’ yesterday and then this post came up on my FB newsfeed “Lady Gaga on being ‘born this way’” by Peter Saunders (CEO of Christian Medical Fellowship, a UK-based organisation with 4,500 UK doctors and 1,000 medical students as members).

Peter challenges the opinion that we are born this way, particularly in relation to sexual orientation and I think it is important that this truth is heard, otherwise songs like this may dictate what people believe. Young people listening to this music and questioning their sexuality, which usually happens during teenage hormonal changes, could pursue and trap themselves in a sexual orientation that is not who they are, by telling themselves I was ’born this way’! (Not that hormonal changes are the only causes for someone to questioning their sexuality, but this is what I choose to raise here.)

Whilst I agree with Gaga’s stand for Safety, Skills and Opportunity (SSO) through the ‘Born this Way foundation’, which Christians should be doing, as we are called to love our neighbours, whatever their sexual orientation may be. We also, as Christ did, stand up for truth, even if it may be politically incorrect.

In essence, Gaga is addressing the decades old ‘nature or nurture’ debate and using her increasing influence to promote the ‘nature’ opinion, which there is still no substantial evidence for. Let’s be careful with what we listen to and how it shapes our lives, particularly statements that are so far from the truth – Born this way = “transgendered”?

Peter Sander’s Article: Lady Gaga on being ‘born this way’

“Lady Gaga has set a new worldwide record, becoming the first person to hit 20 million followers on Twitter. The singer has now edged way in front of her nearest rival Justin Bieber who has 18m followers.

Contemporary idols like Lady Gaga have a powerful influence, not just in becoming the obsessional preoccupation of millions of teenagers (her smash hit ‘Bad Romance’ has had over 450 million views on you tube – one view for every 15 people on the planet), but also in shaping the aspirations and beliefs of a generation.

In this connection, and given the current debate on same sex marriage, I was interested to see an article titled ‘Not “born this way”’ published today on meracatornet about how Gaga has helped mould beliefs on sexuality. It reads:

‘Many people are sympathetic to persons with same-sex attraction demand for a ‘right’ to marry because they believe that such persons were ‘born that way’ and can’t change; therefore, allowing them to call their relationships marriages gives such persons their only opportunity for a recognized relationship.’

Lady Gaga’s song ‘Born this way’ expresses just this view.
No matter gay, straight or bi
Lesbian, transgendered life…
Ooh, there ain’t no other way, baby, I was born this way
Baby, I was born this way

Our Prime Minister David Cameron of course shares this opinion and this is what is driving him in his campaign to legalise same sex marriage.

The problem is that there is no science supporting a ‘gay gene’ or combination of genes or hormonal cause for same-sex attraction.

‘In 1995 The Journal of Homosexuality published 4 issues (Vol 28, numbers 1/ 2. 3/ 4) on the question of biological causes for same-sex attraction. The issues were republished under the title Sex, Cells, and Same-Sex Desire: The Biology of Sexual Preference, and edited by John DeCecco and David Parker. Their conclusion: “Current research into possible biological bases of sexual preference has failed to produce any conclusive evidence.”’

And since 1995 no new scientific, replicated studies have even claimed to find a biological cause for same sex attraction (see my review)

Even leading gay rights activists like Peter Tatchell concede that the belief that homosexual orientation is biologically fixed or determined is not evidence-based.

Most researchers now accept that homosexual orientation, although it may have some genetic influences, is a complex product of genetics, environment and personal choice.

Unfortunately, as mercatornet points out, more people are inclined to believe Lady Gaga than the actual evidence.”

KTYM’s internship programme (for ages 15 –25) is an exciting opportunity to develop your gifts and talents, whilst gaining invaluable experience working in a uniquely dynamic youth ministry.

Not only will you be immersed in the day to day running of KTYM, receiving ministry training and one to one personal development, but you will have the chance to work on your skills and knowledge in an elective that particularly interests you; choosing from an array of departments such as, media production, worship, pastoral and many more. Plus you will also be a major part in contributing towards essential planning for Youth Camp 2012, Social action week and Mission Week.

The total cost for this 4 week programme is £300. This includes your Youth Camp 2012 fee, team field trip activities and other running costs.

Each applicant will undergo an interview which will take place during May. There are only 5 places available so send your application in as soon as you can.

This year we’ll be travelling to the Isle of Wight and staying by a beautiful sandy beach (yes the photo above is of the beautiful sandy beach I’m talkin’ about). We will be camping out on a lovely plot of land and going full throttle with adventure! Even though we will be camping out we will still have the use of hot showers and we’ll be getting hot meals everyday. There’ll be activities galore and most importantly time with God; in the Word, in ministry and in fellowship. You’ll create memories you will never forget, not only with fellow campers but with God.
